Day 15-2

Ok, so should have not read Marjy's last blog, such english and constructed sentences that I shall never be able to develope with ease, not to mention the many typos I make. Hah. I dont care. Anyway.

Yes, sadly, the year has ended (BOOOOO, I am wailing about how I dont want to be a second year student), I'm quite sure that if I let myself, I could cry my eyes out. I loved being a freshman, I dont ever want this to end. Maybe of the fact that I have not been in a school for ages (thanks to homeschooling and private exams) and I dont ever ever want to leave school, reflecting on how fast the year has passed scares me to the core, pretty soon I will be in the senior year, doing FYP, then to the working world NOOOOOOOOOOOO. Scientific ambitious time-travelling nerds should get their ass moving.
Being a second year student, I would get to know the freshman, and then, they will ask me questions...and I jfkdlsajdkl (spazm attack, sorry) Shit. I hate this, I hate last days of anything.... sob.....NOOOOOO.

Ok, reflect on the past few months. Well........ok, I shall begin my story at the beginning again. First task that we had to face was getting into groups, a lot of other people got into a desirable group, I shall be truthfull and say that mine was not very desirable, I shall not mention any names. I felt like I could not depend on a few of my group members, and it made me sick and sad. Especially during interim assesment when we could see the other group's progress, how they had each member doing a separate part of the video. For us, we ALL had to present during group meetings and shoots. When someone was editing, the other was not cappable to produce other things like animation or special effects. I have my limitations, but working in a group meant other people with other talents.......this fell short.

Anyway, we started of quite well but after post-editing we found that our first video was very messy. So we came up with a different idea. Yes, I must credit myself in starting this ball rolling. So, in the middle of the whole thing, we had to scrap our inttial video and reshoot. This time however, we were a lot more into it and I could tell that we were more positive and enthusiastic during production time. And we took time to plan this video so when it came to editig, it was quite easy.

So, it a real marathon, with bumps and scratches along the way. People fell out or got pushed out but eventually caught on again. We had our fights, wether as friends or groupmates. As I look back, it was a really enjoyable experience as a whole. I still think that I had an undesirable group but am happy with the work that we managed to produce. I met Alfie along the way today and he said that he was very pleasantly surprised with the work that everyone produced. Boo. I told him that that was a very political answer, but he went on to explain to me what he meant and that whatever he said was the truth, he did not expect our year 1 work to turn out like so. Yay. The freshmans should be scared. WOO

Love you all, and I am really happy to get to know everyone and work with you all. The few very special people along the way, you should know who you are (this line is so cliche) and I love you all. really, thanks for the memories and laughs. bye to this blog forever and see you all next year.
LOVE

Day 14-2 "Gala Premiere"

Yes, hello friends, we are all invited to the MOI year 1 Gala Premiere. What a lovely day it was. I got up and wore my best dress (not really) and went to meet my friends. Joel was picking me up in a cab, and as usual, he took his own sweet time eating and picked me up at 12. We were supposed to be in school at....12. Marj called Joel and told him that marks would be deducted off a group if they are late. Shit. Ok, for the record, we were 10 minutes late. The lecturers should really keep to their word about deducting marks off because we had to wait a full 1 hours before the event. I was all seated and ready. Not to mention that I had not had my lunch.

Anyway, when it finally began, the group that borrowed 3 cameras the first week of school were still not there (jake, jy, andrea and angie I think). The event began with Sholleh's group. And it carried on. It was really cute to see "MOI News" they were all dressed up to their best and Raymond gave such a lovely intro. Another group went with the News-casting theme was "News6" I love their clip, it was really funny and original and creative, not to mention a cameo appearance by our dear Joel (it was hillarious). Best original screenplay, I thought, could have gone to Sarah's group if only they didnt end abruptly. The last group that presented was "Crewsade" .............ya, it was GOOD. They were in the same class as me so, over the past month I had seen their rough cut, and I must say that after post editing, it looked really really GOOD. Not to mention the special effects and everything. Damn.

So, the day finally came to an end and it was all hugs and goodbyes and we "celebrated" by going to my place for pizza!! Woo! It was homemade all from scratch. lovely. If your dying to try homebaked goodness fresh from the oven, ask me anytime if you can come ova!! Then we went to watch James and the Giant Peach. I LOVE it. anyone who hasnt seen it and want to take animation should really watch that movie. I love it. Then, before everyone left, there a bit of confusion (I love thesauraus.com, really helpfull when you cant get a particular word) with money issue, and us being the designers we are had to take about half and hour passing the receipts around to those who think they know better until finally settling the "bill" and change. Gosh.

Day 13-2 "Last day of editing"

Yes, so yesterday was the last day of editing. It had to be since we had to export it into a tape on Tuesday, today.
So, we went back to Marjy's place to finish up. There was a lot to be done, we even came up with a timeline for the days' errand. We had to do the subtitles, finish up the credit roll and put in the music...ya.

Doing subtitles took longer than expected. Next was getting that star background thingy. We coldnt just cut out that section on premier...well...we could but there was editing to be done in photoshop because as it fades out, we could still see Tomy Lee Jones face. Under any other circumstances, it would have been perfectly fine, hah, but for this, we cant. Thank God Gary was there with us yesterday, and he managed to move out that sequence as a frame by frame jpg file. yay. So, I went and erased out his face (so sorry love, I'm really alright with your face there) Once that was done, we had to compile our works. Mine I had done the day before actually.
After that was finding a song for the ending. I wanted an orchestra-ic song, you know, the whole strings assamble and all. This took some time because the first few we found on the net were so dark or gloomy or sad. Anyway, we finally found it from the "Jurrasic Park theme" song...ironic.

Yay!!! We finnally got everything done like, an hour before midnight. So tired. Gosh. Poor Marjy's phone was bombarded with like sms-es the whole day from our last groupmate. I was pissed with her too. She told us that she emailed Wahidah the time we would be going to school......ok, 1. she doesnt even know what time we can meet; 2. she doesnt even know if we have finished the video; 3. she doesnt even know where we are at the moment. Lyke, toot off already, you were never helpfull in the first place and you want to attempt to start now?? And emailing Wahidah so did not help. Ok ya.

Saturday

We met up in school quite early, for once, I was the one who came late, so sorry guys. They were so sweet to have brought me these two perfectly scrumptuous tarts...or whatever they called it. It was lovely.

We finally got around to start editing our video in the labs. Unfortunatelly, we discovered that the Premiere version in Marjy's computer was different from those in school and it wouldnt be able to open. So, we had to make our way to Marjy's house.

We went to edit our video. We managed to accomplish a few things. And we made a very very interesting discovery!! We couldnt cut the sequences anymore..so...we fast-forwarded some sequences, mostly Natalya's, as I said, she speaks with a full.stop.at.every.word, so it sounded absolutely normal once we fast-forwarded the tape. Yay. This saved a lot of time really. We also fast-forwarded some of the pauses that each of us included in our sequences.

We also managed to agree on a better credit roll, thanks to Marge and Joel. We were really going to do it "Oscars" style. You know that star background thing that they have in between nominees; we are going to get that transition for each of us.
You know the screen when they show like, the nominees in one shot, yes, where you can see everybody's exasperated expectant faces while they wait for the winner; we will have that as each persons background when we showcase our works. I really dont think I'm making much sense, Anyway! it will all be understood when people watch it on Wednesday.

Friday

On Friday, we went to see Wahidah. Actually, Wahidah wanted to see us, our progress and all the shots that we had to retake. It was another rainy morning that we had to drag ourselves out of :( but I took a new umbrella that wasn't spoilt. Later, we compared umbrellas, we also came to a realization how rapidly people change their minds about what's hot and what's not - About 6 months ago, people refuse to carry those non-foldable umbrellas, now, that was the most fashionable accessory on a rainy day...actually, it doesn't have to be a rainy day..ya; Joel had the tallest umbrella, followed by mine then Marjy's. (I still don't know where all these ( ' apostrophes) are supposed to go. Wuteva.

Wahidah seemed pretty okay with what we had. She did stress on the point that we had to cut our video time back to meet the required time-span.....this left us quite dumb-founded as we had done all the necessary cuts, if we were to cut out even more parts, we would have a really jumpy non-imformative video. Anyway, we decided that we would have to try again and edit the video the following day, Saturday.

Marge had to go to class and Joel and I (Natalya was in the room too, but she had her mac on) went on to watch "Notes on a Scandal". Oh dear, the english they use just astounds me. And it was a very disturbing movie to watch. One line that Judy Dench mentioned in the movie that Joel and I could not possibly get over with was "that was the end of her prebulescent paramour"........like....wtf. I love it.

Day 12-2

Woke up to a stormy weather perfect for sleeping in. Darn it. So, we all met up late because everyone was stuck at home and if we were to brave the rains, someones pants or shoes or bag or back would get really really wet...I wasnt going to be a victim of something I can prevent.

Anyway, we reached school finally. And I realized that I had a broken umbrella :( Anyway, the reason why we had to cogregate in school was to shoot our outro. So, we got Andreas to help us be a cameraman as this shot needed the whole groups' faces. It got off with a rough start because we debated on how a near-perfect shot woud be and how Andreas was supposed to move with the camera....etc...anyway, we got the shot that we wanted and went off to lunch and editing.

Day 11-2 "Never piss the bouncer yo"

Ok, corny tag line. anyway. Yes, I have yet again procrastinated really badly.

So, by reading Marjy's punctual blog, I have recalled that on this day, there was the Diploma Show and I, along with a few other people, volunteered ourselves as ushers. Later in the day, we found out that our positions were more of bouncers (as Mr.Ronald called it) than ushers. I wore heels that day, hence Margy's sentence "Kezzy was tall today"
Note: if in the event of wearing heels, MUST take flipflops or any form of flat shoes in case of agonizing pain.

And according to my blog title, parents are sooo anoying and the Singaporean culture makes them believe that when anything that doesnt subject to their liking allows them to complain to higher authorities. Well tough luck paranoia imbuned minds, youre not allowed in and I cannot do anything about it.

So, today, before the Diploma show, we went to reshoot 2D Art since our video was too long and cutting the previous shot would result in really awful jump cuts.

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

Day 10-2 "Interim 2"

Ok, yup, so today was interim. Before we presented, Marge told me that she had to cut out our thank you speeches and changed it with something else. She also told me that we would have to reshoot 3D since our video exceeded the time limit. She also noted that we have not shot our closing sequence.

So, once again, we had to see the other groups progress..........I shall not say anything about them. But I was really impressed with one group's work, Snap.

Before we showed our video, I briefly told the class that we have changed our concept and format as the other one totally sucked. I also told them that we wanted ours very traditional, it was all camera footages and we did not have all those swanky ass effects like the other groups. Very happy that Wahidah got this and commented ours as "classy" YAY!!!

A very very very BIG HUGE thanks to Marge who stayed up and put the final touches on our video. Thanks alot love.

Day 9-2

So, on Monday, yesterday, Joel, Gary and I went to Marge's place. All of the footages were in her computer and we had to choose the respective audios for the various sequences.

This took some time. I had violent objections for the Intro song, if anyone thinks so too, just to let you know that I was againts it.

Yup, that was all we did yesterday.

Friday "and the oscars still goes to ...... meee!!"

Ok, we went back to school on Friday to shoot our credit roll. We decided to have each of us say a thank you speech on receiving our Oscar then, in post editing, we would put in our achievements.

Me - Best director, Best original screenplay, Best animated feature (for "stolen"), Make up and Art Direction

Marge - Best Cinematographer, Best sound editing, Best original score/song and Set Design (for "when a stranger talks")

Joel - Best dressed, Best actor, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Costume design (for "Kezzy's oscar speech dress take 1")

Finally, for Natalya - Best Documentary Short (for "An Inconvenient Truth")

I wanted to put Best Foreign Language for Natalya also...but, we decided not to in the end.

Day 8-2

So, I have yet again procrastinated. I still dont get this blogging things. gosh.

Ok, anyway, on Thursday I was early, as usual, and we went up to the studio. We were going to shoot for 2D Art Fundamentals. Ok, ya. So, Marge found this magazine and I just drew the back cover of this lady with different mediums. Oil pastel, soft pastels and watercolor. Joel and I later talked about our 1m x 1m painting. Once we finished that, we went to the ESpace in hopes of shooting for 3D, however, our plan was to pan around the room and the morning sun casted its rays in to the windows and in camera, this just came out as overexposure even though the windows were tinted.

Nothing we can do about that, so we went for lunch. Marge then went to class. I dont understand why Natalya has to ask the same question over and over and over again. She asked Marge the same question thrice, asked Joel that same question twice and asked me the exact same question three times again. Like wtf. Ok, she asked "um..are.we.going.to.shoot.today...?" the answer was an outright yes. For goodness sake, she was there when we said that the video would be overexposed, hence, we had to wait for the evening to shoot and Marge had class so we were waiting for that too since the shoot required her presence.

Anyway, I had DOC meeting so the rest went to shoot. Thanks guys.

Day 7-2 Did not do anything

Yes, we did not do anything. And I am still sad but I have no idea why. And I have no idea why I am thinking of this person I am thinking of. Yes, I will still not tell you who.

Kay.

Day 6-2 Mix of Alcohol with corked up tears and all I could think about was you

Right, so, on Tuesday, Natalya was sick so we told her to stay in. We again had a subway feast.

We didnt really have a lot left to do, so we decided to redo Marge's scene. We went to Boat Quay once again. There were a lot of complications at first. Especially with all the noise and the sky. It was a cloudless white piece of blank, hence overexposeur. yup. We tried different angles, locations and stuff, so we finally settled on by the river.

When we finished our shoot, some mediacorp people came and took the same exact location we shot at. The girl was walking so stifly, gosh. Ahah. And they came with all their fancy equiptment and reflectors and mike and tracks......well......Marge reminded me that 'Once' was shot with just 2 handy-cams. Hah. Yup

Then, we went for dinner and I spent 12 bucks on a hot dog. Damn, cheated me. Then we went to drink and I stayed sober...and sad...about somebody. No names. Hah

Day 5-2

Monday, I got a sneak preview of what Joel had to do for the other group, the one with Andrea Lek, Dion and etc. It was DAMN funny!! ahaaha. ok ya.

Then, that was also when we found out that Natalya might be suffering from Dengue Fever for she asked me what the symptoms were. I didnt really know.

Anyway, we managed to shoot our Intro and she then went home to rest. Before that though, we met up with Wahidah and she saw the various other shoots. She seemed to like the shoot better than the last one. But she did point out that the location Marge was in was a bit weird.

Yes, and the oscars still goes to me!! we were bringing him around school when we were looking for a location and people thought it was a real one...as in...we bought it from a store.

Anyway, we went to Margies place to watch Atonement. I loov the English accentt. I shall right now tolk lyke them. Ryght, so we wentt a yonder, excercysing along thee way (we walked forth all the way to her place). My take on the moovie...disterrbing, but I simpely adore Keira Knightly. Ryght, herr father then preparred a scrumpttuous dinna fo all of us. It was very nice indeed. And he actually remembered my simple requestt thhat I did not fancy spicy hott fuood indeed. Yes. Very thoughtfull. Then, we watched something more lighthearted, Forrest Gump. I shall now change my accent to suit the southern twang.

Weal, Mumuh sayed, that life wass lyyyke ae box of choclats..yoo nevar know wuut yo gonna gett. ahahahaha. Eet wass chyiledhood nastalgyia, Iee remembered whan Iee saww eet as a chyield. yep, with muay pap.

So yup, tt was Monday

Saturday

On Saturday, Marge, Joel and I met up in school. Why wasnt Natalya there?? Cuz...she would have been redundant as the sequences we would be shooting did not require her; and if we had asked her to come, we would be wasting her time.

Shooting on Saturday was quite good. Met a few groups along the way. First, we went to shoot Joel's sequence. We went to the TV Studio, damn cool room. We managed to drop the curtains the way we want it and arranged the equiptment to a desired effect. Joel memorized his lines, camera rolling and we were done. We then had fun skidding around in the room, the floor was a bit sandy. BUT we are responsible adults and we cleaned up. Hah! ok ya.

Then, we shot my sequence. By this time Joel was complaning and whining about food, so he went to get us some bubble tea. It was relatively fast and we would like to thank the people in the room who shuttup during the shoot.

Then, the hardest shoot so far. Marge's sequence. It was hard to end the shoot and transition and stuff. But, it was a job well done and a very fruitful day indeed. Yup.

Later we went to the airport. Terminal 3 since none of us has been there. This turned out to be a big let down for it took us approximately half and hour just going around and finding food that could live up to how much it cost. Then, dessert at TCC which was another let down. DO NOT order the chocolate oozzing from the menu thingi. I could make better, it was puny and it cost like 10 bucks. Oh, Joel just reminded me that it was called "Dark Devotion". We then contemplated to steal the silverware and chairs to make up for the price. We also thought of gulping down gallons of water to make up for the price. Mmhmm. After that, we went to look for a more satisfying dessert; we found this from Starbucks, the Warm Chocolate Cake. OO it was wonderfull. Damn....it was twice the size of the Dark Devotion and cost like, half of wut it was. yup.

Friday "breath in, reach up.....u are a tree, HELL no, im a f*****g shrub"

ok, I have seemed to have gotten my days and dates mixed up. Anyway,

Friday we went to shoot Natalya's sequence. When she came, she did not even have the guts to apologize, she did not even talk about her rage or anything for that matter.

Anyway, we went to shoot at Bedok Reservoir. Natalya was going to present Drawing Essentials. I got a bit upset cuz she was doing it all wrong. Yes, Mr Ronald would have wanted to slap her too. I was holding the camera and as she was doing her live-sketch, I just had to stop...I wanted to say "WUT THE HELL is that" but I was nice, so I didnt say anything.

We finally got down to; me drawing lightly on the paper for her, then she carrying it on from there with speech and darker lines. This worked out quite well but I still cannot understand how someone talks with full stops at every word...for example
"hi.welcome.to.drawing.essentials.today......" ok......1 minute of speech could have been said in 30 seconds!!

So, that was Friday

Sunday, March 2, 2008

Day 4-2

Ok, have procrastinated long enough.

So on Day 4, we redid our script. I was on work at the 2 column storyboard-thingi and joel was working on the script.

Marge, Joel and I went down to the canteen to get some food and discuss the problems we are facing as a group. Then, we called Natalya down. Okay people, it is quite evident and I will just say it out. We were not happy with her lack of intuition and initiative, so we were going to address to her these things. However, were not such bitches to just whack her on the head. Instead of that, Marge asked her if there was anything that she wanted to say (which was a very good way to start). So, this is what she said "you guys are just wasting my time" and walked off..............in normal circumstances we would have called her back. But, we were not prepared for such an outburst of a response that we sat there dumb-founded.

Okay miss, we were going to talk things out as a group and solve out any misunderstanding and unspoken bitterness and hatred.....how is that wasting time??

Anyway, cant do anything about that anymore, so Joel and I continued the work we have not finished and Marge went to class.
Joel and I were supposed to finish the paper work then go and shoot our storyboard. But because of the days earlier events we met the other group and started telling them our dilemma. Oh well, but we did in the end get our storyboard done and printed.
